Power Supply?

Can you answer Cheech’s question about Generators?:

I am planning on buying a GeForce 7600GT. My computer right now has a 300 watt ATX power supply. Is it absolutly necessary to upgrade or will it still run on 300 watts?

Generators Feedback: It is ABsolutely necessary to upgrade that power supply. And you can do it for like $50.

Generators Feedback: it will run even you’re using a 300 watt old power supply of yours as long there is a connector for all your computer needs

    Generators Feedback: Hi,

Game PCs will require BIG power supplies. I would not run a game machgine with less than a 450 watt supply and maybe even go as high as a 500 watt or larger.

300 watts is for a PII and maybe some early PIII cpu’s and will NOT take the requirements of a high performance video card. I stay away from brand name PCs for that very reason. THey undersize the power supplies.

Generators Feedback: The card you are puchasing will not run correctly with anything less than 450w PSU. Now, buying PSUs is something you will need to study a bit, or just take the advice of someone who builds gaming systems for a living (like me :) ) There are many low-priced, low-quality power supplies out there that will fail within hours-weeks. They sell these to unsavy computer modders because it will cost you more to ship it back than to buy another. My suggestion to you is to pick up a ‘Rosewill RP550V2-D-SL’. It is a 550w peak (525w constant) PSU that has ample amps on each rail to power everything just fine. A lot of PSU makers will claim to have so many watts, but the low amps on the cheap PSU makes these watts unuseable. The model I mentioned has the 6-pin connector you will need for that card, plus 2 independant 12v rails, and costs about half of the price of a similar quality from a bigger brand. you can find one at Newegg for around 80 bucks. It is what I am running in my personal gaming machine and I love it. It is dependable and ample for what you need. Also it is a good investment for future builds/upgrades. ;)

Generators Feedback: Yes, I would recommend that you upgrade that upgrade your power supply for the simple fact that video cards take up a lot of power nowadays. Take a look on the box and se how much power consumption your card uses. Go to to look for power supplies.
