How do you check a battery in a Back-up unit to see if it is good or not.such as a APC backup power strip?

Can you answer jcmc64’s question about Generators?:
I checked the battery and it reads around 5.5 Volts DC. SO I think the battery is good, it just won’t power off the protected outlets, just the unprotected ones. So there must be something wrong with the strip itself and not the battery

Generators Feedback: If the APC unit has an interface to it via Ethernet or USB you could probably download a program for the APC website to check. If there is a status LED on the unit, check that.
Personally if it was your own computer I would just pull the plug (with no applications runing just windows) and see how long it lasts.
