Thanks for the sharing but I have written a blog post on improving gas mileage, few of it covered:

- Heater and defroster – make sure they work properly.
- Save gas Lights and flashing hazard lights – see if they work.
- Save gas Oil - check for level, and weight. Make sure you have either a high-viscosity or multi-viscosity oil rated for winter use.
- save gas Thermostat – check if operational.

Generators Feedback: This isn't going to work because the generator designed to make, for example, 60 Hz AC for the US market must spin at a specific rate.

However, you may do better with a car alternator.

Generators Feedback: Assuming you are at the generator control panel and not on the dash... you will have to assure that you have a good ground to the chassis of your motorhome... pull the spark plug on your gen and make sure it is not hydro locked...pull your car/truck up to the gen cubby hole and take your jumper cables and hook pos to pos and then hook up your grounds
and try again.... It should jumper if the starter is good and hooked up right.... good luck

Generators Feedback: They are really worth it. If you have the money put in an automatic type. If you have natural gas or propane use that for fuel it will save having to fuss with gasoline or diesel fuel.

I live in the city but still have a 5000 watt gasoline one I can hook up to the furnace, a couple of lights and the freezer. We had power out for about 14 hours during a ice storm and it worked great. but I had to keep refuelling it every 5 hours or so.

Generators Feedback: JAMES! Wake up, brother. You're dreaming.

You don't really think that the electricity that is running all of those accessories in your car is naturally renewable electricity, do ya?

When your engine is running... maybe I'm getting ahead of myself here...

Do you have a car? Have you ever heard that thing that makes a noise when you put the key in and turn it? Well, that's the engine. Without getting too technical, it makes your car "go".

When your engine is, well... "going", it is also making other things "go". One of those thingy's is a round thing that has some other things in it. These things work together to make - you guessed it - ELECTRICITY. Yeahhhhh!

Now, this is DC electricity and it can be stored in a battery that is just a little bigger than a lunchbox and about as heavy as if you had 50 bologna sandwiches in your lunchbox, heck maybe more! Anyway, that battery and the electricity that round thingy "generates", is what powers your radio and the lights and other cool stuff in your car.

So I guess what I'm saying here is - that all this comes from a simple twist of the key, and that there is some weird combination of metals in the key that supplies this endless source of electricity, and that if you can run wires from the filament of your taillight bulb to an outlet in your house, you should be able to watch TV off of that magic key.

Don't lose that key!

We just got back from a camping trip that was totally ruined by all the generators running during the allowed hours. You may think you are causing no problems running your little generator , but don't kid yourself, for campers who do not have trailers and campers to hide away from the noise in (and why should we have to?) it is totally frustrating and wrong. We go camping to get away from the noise of the city.and we couldn't even have a conversation during breakfast without yelling. Nice. Try to remember camping as a kid. No microwaves or toasters or hairdryers. Perked coffee and flashlights and coleman lanterns. If you can't live without the other stuff there are batteries that will power them. I know people with 5 wheels who carry 2 and don't ever turn on a generator. It can be done and I agree with lone wolf - they should not be allowed in parks.

Generators Feedback: No. Wind generated power is done by generating variable frequency AC , frequency dependant on wind speed, coverting it to DC, and then converting it back to fixed frequency AC, 50Hz or 60Hz. It's a completely different concept.
