    Question:

I have a 8.5 KW propane generator which can be set up through the controller to put out either 120V or 240V power. What are the pros and cons of setting it up to put out 120? The generator charges a battery bank through an inverter. There are no 240V requirements in equipment being used in the system. One knowledgable person tells me it makes no difference which output voltage I use, and recommends 120V, while another says I am only getting half the power I could be getting from a given amount of propane, and that I am abusing the generator by using only one “side”.

Thanks for any help you can provide, or for any other source of information.
