What do I need to do before installing a standby generator in Ontario Canada. Bylaws, permitts?

Can you answer tim m’s question about Generators?:

I need to know if I need a permit to install a generator to my house electrical system in Ontario Canada? What are all the steps involved? I have a 7000 watt generator and transfer switch purchased already. Do I need to inform Ontario Hydro?

Generators Feedback: You need to first check with the local electrical authority, but generally all you need to have is an automatic transfer switch to make sure that you are disconnected from the grid prior to allowing the generator to power the house. There are several reasons for doing so, not the least of which is so you don’t fry the poor lineman working on the power lines.
As long as you have purchased a name brand unit from a reputable company such as Generac, or Kohler, the install is simple, and the manufacturer has done all the research to make it safe and generally acceptable in all areas with only minor changes if any. Just about any local electrician can tell you how to install it and what you need for that area.
I have Generac unit, had a local electrician install it one afternoon, and had it running the next day.The electrician had the inspector look at it while he was on site in case there were any problems. (there were none). Unit works great even if I’m not home.
