Are small generators generally allowed while camping in state parks?

Can you answer Billabong’s question about Generators?:

I just picked up a small (1200 Watt) generator to go on a rather cold camping trip here in Florida. I might want to use the generator to charge up a battery or two but don’t plan on running it all night. Do state parks generally allow the generators? It makes about as much noise as a small lawnmower.

Generators Feedback: in general yes most campgrounds have a sound limit time from 10pm to 8am
I would not enjoy being camped next to a noisy generator myself so be cautious when using it

Generators Feedback: I used my 1200 watt and my 7,000 watt generator in Wyoming, Idaho, Oregon, Washington, and most recently in Alaska. There was never a problem as long as I observed the rules of the campground which were quite lenient. In most instances, we turned the generator off long before the curfew. Many state and federal campgrounds and parks even have electrical hook-ups for a little more than the cost of a regular campsite, so even without the generators, we have had all the comforts we needed and MORE. You will have no problem with your generator as long as you keep the peace. ;o) (no pun intended)

Generators Feedback: I know of no restrictons other than noise after 10PM.

If you have a quiet Honda, maybe longer.

I’ve run my 7kW Onan while boondocking for hours to charge the batteries for night use.

Generators Feedback: I assume most States are the same as Texas. Here you can use than all day as long as you turn them of at 10.00pm till 8.00 am.

Most people go to state parks to enjoy a more rustic outdoor experience. As a camper who is currently set up near an ignorant buffoon who feels it is his right to run his generator from 8:00 am - 10:00pm, I’d like to see them outlawed. He’s using what appears to be a DeWalt contractor model. Between the noise and the exhaust, his selfish ignorance is ruining the weekend for a lot of other people. if you need electricity that badly, pay a few extra dollars and go to a park that has electrical hookup

We just got back from a camping trip that was totally ruined by all the generators running during the allowed hours. You may think you are causing no problems running your little generator , but don’t kid yourself, for campers who do not have trailers and campers to hide away from the noise in (and why should we have to?) it is totally frustrating and wrong. We go camping to get away from the noise of the city.and we couldn’t even have a conversation during breakfast without yelling. Nice. Try to remember camping as a kid. No microwaves or toasters or hairdryers. Perked coffee and flashlights and coleman lanterns. If you can’t live without the other stuff there are batteries that will power them. I know people with 5 wheels who carry 2 and don’t ever turn on a generator. It can be done and I agree with lone wolf - they should not be allowed in parks.
